SuperCoach Official Rules

The SuperCoach game ("SuperCoach") is an online fantasy sports community. This web site ("Web Site") and SuperCoach are operated by Vapormedia Virtual Sports, a business unit of Vapormedia Pty Limited ACN 140 989 368 ("Vapormedia"), for The Herald and Weekly Times Pty Limited ACN 004 113 937 ("HWT") in association with News Limited companies publishing newspapers in Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales, Western Australia and Northern Territory. By registering and participating, users agree to be bound by these rules and conditions.

1. WHO MAY PLAY

Entry to SuperCoach is open to all residents of Australia. There is no minimum age limit, however any prizes that may be won by an entrant below the age of 18 will be awarded to their parent/legal guardian. The following entrants are welcome, however are not eligible to be awarded any prizes for participation in SuperCoach: (i) employees of, or contractors to, HWT, game sponsors or any of the agencies involved with this competition, (ii) members of the immediate family of such employees and contractors, and (iii) international participants who are not residents of Australia.

SuperCoach is offered as a free game to all participants, and is not to be used in connection with any form of gambling or the promotion of gambling. All entrants and competition winners consent to the publication of their name and suburb of residence but request that their full address not be published, and agree to participate in reasonable promotional activities as requested by HWT. HWT reserves the right to limit the number of participants in SuperCoach at any time for any reason.

2. TERM OF COMPETITION

SuperCoach will be conducted during the normal Australian Football League home and away season in 2011 ("AFL Season"). The competition period commences at 12:01AM AEDST on 01/02/11 and ends at 11:59PM AEST on 04/09/11.

3. HOW TO ENTER

To enter, participants must first complete the online registration form on any of these web sites: www.heraldsun.com.au/supercoach, www.foxsports.com.au/supercoach, www.adelaidenow.com.au/supercoach, www.perthnow.com.au/supercoach, www.themercury.com.au/supercoach, www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/supercoach, www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/super, www.goldcoast.com.au/supercoach, www.ntnews.com.au/supercoach, www.couriermail.com.au/supercoach

There are no charges for registration and all games are absolutely free.

Once registered, participants receive their personalised home page, where they are required to:

(a) Choose a nickname, which is also used as their team name;

(b) Participate in the selection of a SuperCoach side;

(c) Play and maintain the side in accordance with these official rules;

(d) If they were invited to join a private league, enter the appropriate details to join that league (participants may create or join up to 5 private or public leagues with their single registration and team entry). The private league competition begins at the start of round 1 (with byes in rounds 4, 5, 6, 16 and 19) when leagues of 16 SuperCoach teams will be formed.

From round 1 to round 20, each team in a private league will "play" every other team in that league once. The winner of each head-to-head battle is the team with the most SuperCoach points for that round.

Teams will get 4 points for a win, 2 points for a tie and nothing for a loss. Then, during rounds 21-24, the top eight teams in a private league will go head-to-head in a finals series to determine the league Premier and the bottom 8 will also compete in a minor finals series.

Private leagues can be joined in one of four ways:

1) Participants can use the League page on the Web Site to create and name (up to five) private leagues that other players can be invited to join. If there are fewer than 16 teams in a private league, other teams will be automatically recruited to make up a 16-side league.

Players invited by another participant to join a private league will receive an invitation and link to the registration page for the SuperCoach game and once registered, will be automatically added to the league.

2) Participants can accept an invitation from another SuperCoach player to join their private league using the league code that will be sent to them.

3) Participants who elect to do neither of the above will be automatically entered into a 16-team public league.

4) Participants who have indicated that they were born between the years of 1993 and 2005 and reside in Victoria may also join a specific Victorian School Group based on the school that they attend, via an option provided to them during the registration process. These participants must attend (and specify) a Victorian primary or secondary school. Participants will then be ranked based on their weekly, total and average SuperCoach score against other Participants from their school who are registered in their Victorian School Group. The average score for each participating school each round will be calculated for schools with 10 or more participants only, and will be based on the average individual scores of the top 80% of all entries based on the Participants' individual scoring.

Participants can only enter SuperCoach once. Under no circumstances can participants enter two or more teams in SuperCoach.

Any entry that fails to provide all required information may be disqualified. HWT assumes no responsibility for incomplete, late or misdirected entries, or entries received through impermissible or illegitimate channels or for failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind. HWT reserves the right to disqualify any entrant submitting an entry which is not made in accordance with the terms of these official rules or who does not abide by the Web Site terms and conditions.

In order to meet the minimum activity requirements for SuperCoach, participants must access their SuperCoach home page at least once every 30 days. Participants that fail to meet the minimum activity requirements may be disqualified at HWT's discretion.

4. SCORING OF POINTS

Each participant chooses a squad of 33 players according to salary cap and positional restrictions described on this Web Site.

Participants must choose a 33-man squad according to the following positional requirements:

  • 10 backs
  • 9 centres
  • 4 rucks
  • 10 forwards

Each week, participants choose 22 players whose contribution to a participant's SuperCoach score is based on the player's real-life performance in that week's AFL round as assessed by Champion Data Holdings Pty Ltd ACN 090641553.

In addition to the 22 starting players, a participant can choose three emergencies who will not score unless they replace a starting player who did not play that round. If required, an emergency will be added to the starting 22 in the same position as the player he is replacing. If this isn't possible (i. e The position of the emergency doesn't match the position of the selected players who did not play that round), then no emergency score is added and if there are 2 emergencies available in any single position but only one is required, then the lowest scoring of the 2 is added.

Points are only scored by players selected for each game/round. After selecting their starting 22 players, participants must choose a team captain who will score double points for the round. Participants may also choose a vice-captain, who will score double points for the round if the selected captain does not, for any reason, play that round.

Players traded during the season do not get their aggregate points added or subtracted to the participant's total. Participants can replace members of their squad via the Trade page of this Web Site. Participants can make up to 24 trades per season with a maximum of 2 trades in any given round. Trades must be made prior to the commencement of the next round and will be subject to the participant's SuperCoach salary cap.

Player values can be found on the Player Draft, Team, Trade and Statistics pages of the Web Site.

Scores are awarded to each of the 22 players in a participant's SuperCoach starting line-up as follows:
