How you'll score points

Your Weekly Times SuperCoach team will score points according to the real-life performances of your selected players during the 24 round season.

Only your starting line-up of 22 will earn points for your side. If any of them are unable to play, one of your three emergencies will be brought into the line-up. An emergency will be added to your starting 22 in the same position as the player he is replacing. If two or more emergencies could fill the position, the lowest-scoring player will come into the 22. If a member of the starting 22 can't play and there are no emergencies to play in his position, you'll get zero points for that player.

Unlike other games, Weekly Times SuperCoach uses Champion Data's exclusive stats system to assess each player's contribution to your team. At the end of each match, Champion Data will calculate players' final ranking and this score will be added to your team's total.

Remember, not all of your players will score points for your team. First, your squad must have 33 players in order for your team to score points. Second, a player may put in a shocker or spend most of the match on the bench meaning they score zero points. Third, the player may have been omitted from their real-life team or was injured and unable to play.

In many cases, this player will be replaced by one of your emergencies, however a zero-scoring player who is actually named and in the starting 22 will no longer be replaced by an emergency (and a zero score will have an impact on their value).. Finally, eight members of your squad will always score zero for a particular round. These are the players left out of your starting 22 and not picked as an emergency.

Byes in 2011

Due to the 17 team format of the AFL competition in 2011, there will be at least one team that'll have a bye each round, with three teams all having a bye during rounds 4, 5, 6, 16 and 19. You'll not receive any points from players whose team/s have a bye, and don't play in any particular round. Please keep this in mind and adjust your team accordingly each week.

The Champion Data Difference

By using Champion Data's comprehensive rankings system of over 50 different stats, player rankings are the most accurate way to determine how effective a player has been. You can be sure that a high-scoring player is giving his team maximum value. Unlike other stats systems, Champion Data will not simply award a point for each kick, mark or handball. For example, while other games will award points for a kick no matter how far it goes or where it's directed, Champion Data will award zero points for a kick that travels less than 40 meters to a contest.

Instead, teams of trained statisticians will assess the state of the game, the pressure on the player and the result of a disposal or possession to determine a score for that action. In many cases, players will lose points for a disposal or action that allows their opponents back into the passage of play.

Occasionally, a minor adjustment may be made to a player's ranking points after SuperCoach results have been processed. This can occur when field umpires review a game and discover a free kick was credited for or against the wrong player. These amendments will NOT be included in SuperCoach scoring.
