Leagues f.a.q.

Q: Can I create a league in which I can go head-to-head with friends? A: Yes. Everything you need to know about private leagues can be found here, and by following the "League" link from your HQ page once you have logged in.

Q: Can I move from one league to another? A: Yes. Swap leagues by entering the code for the league that you want to move into. But you can only move if there's fewer than 16 teams in the league you want to join.

Q: What do I get for winning a private league? A: Glory, bragging rights and the admiration of your peers. If you want to win $1000, make sure you're the top SuperCoach for a given round. If you want $55,000, become Australia's top SuperCoach for 2011.

Q: I'd like to change the name of my league. Can I do this? A: For a very limited time only. Choose your league name carefully.

Q: There are new teams in the League that I joined. Why? A: In order to ensure that all leagues have 16 teams, a final eight and finals series, we may need to add teams or merge leagues from time to time. Sometimes this may mean the name of your league changes.

Head-to-head Leagues competition

Your SuperCoach team will compete against thousands of others in the overall competition, giving you the chance to win $1000 for topping the weekly ladder and $55,000 for scoring the most points in season 2011.

Your team will also compete in a private league where 16 SuperCoach sides will go head-to-head each week in a bid to make the private league final eight and its finals series - including a private league Grand Final between the two top-ranked SuperCoach teams.

Your 2011 SuperCoach team can compete in up to five private or public head-to-head leagues simultaneously. You can choose to create your own private league which you then invite friends and colleagues to join, you can accept the invitation of another SuperCoach player to join their league or you can do nothing and have your team randomly assigned to a 16-side private league (or any combination of these between the five leagues that you are able to enter).

How leagues work

The private league competition begins at ROUND 1. Leagues of 16 teams will be formed each Round staring from Round 1 - please ensure that your team is complete with 33 players, otherwise it will be REMOVED from its league. It will only be added to a league when you have a complete team of 33 players.

From round 1 to round 20, each team in a private league will play every other team in that league once. Rounds 4, 5, 6, 16 and 19 (where there are 3 AFL clubs who have a 'bye' round in each) will be considered 'bye' weeks in the competition - that is, there are no head-to-head league matches in those weeks. Your team continues to play and score points in the overall competition in those weeks as usual. The winner of each head-to-head battle is the team with the most Weekly Times SuperCoach points for that round.

Teams will get 4 points for a win, 2 points for a tie and nothing for a loss. Then, during rounds 21-24, the top eight teams in a private league will go head-to-head in a finals series to determine the league Premier. The bottom eight teams will also play in their own finals series for the league's minor premiership.

Remember, joining a private league won't require you to do anything extra to your Weekly Times SuperCoach team - you'll still be part of the overall competition and you'll remain in the running for the weekly and overall prizes - it just gives you another way to prove your footy coaching credentials!

Public Leagues

Creating a public league will allow you to invite anyone you like to your league. Anyone who joins your league or obtains your unique league code will also have the ability to join and invite others to this league.

Private Leagues

If you create a private league, you'll be the only one who can invite others to this league direct via your leagues page. Anyone joining your league is not able to invite others via the form on your private league page.

And no matter what type of mini league you join, you'll be able to communicate with your private league opponents through the Psyche Out - a forum allowing direct discussion between players.

Inviting others to play

You can invite others or join a head-to-head league in one of three ways:

1) You can use the League page to invite friends, family and colleagues to join. If you can't find 15 others to join your league, Weekly Times SuperCoach will automatically recruit other teams to make up a 16-side league.

Players you invite to join your league will receive an invitation and link to the registration page for the Weekly Times SuperCoach game and once registered, will be automatically added to your private league.

2) You can accept an invitation from another Weekly Times SuperCoach player to join their private league using the league code that will be sent to you.

3) You can do nothing and your team will be automatically entered into a 16-team public league (as long as you have selected a complete squad).

NEW - Setup your Facebook league!

If you have a Facebook account, you can now link it to your Weekly Times SuperCoach entry. In addition to all the benefits (unified login with your Facebook credentials, sharing of data to your wall, etc), you'll be able to setup your very own Facebook league, in addition to your regular head-to-head leagues! On linking your account, Weekly Times SuperCoach will automatically setup your 'all in' Facebook league. You'll be ranked based on overall points against any of your Facebook contacts who also play Weekly Times SuperCoach and have linked their account. In addition, you can automatically invite any of those not playing with a simple wall post directly from Weekly Times SuperCoach - or invite them to one of your head-to-head leagues.
